Silver Secateurs

The regional heat of the Silver Secateurs pruning competition was held yesterday on our Clouston vineyard after the first date was postponed due to the threat of hail and rain. The day dawned bright and warm – perfect pruning weather and a very large crowd of Wairarapa pruners arrived – either to compete or support their workmates. We had two teams entered and knew the competition would be tough. After a sterling effort our ace team of Kyra (cutting), Sophie (pulling) and Johnny (tying down) came in second place – only 1.2 marks off the winning team. As they had never done competitive pruning before it was an awesome effort. Richard Riddiford has given our girls a bottle of the 2007 bubbles each for the great effort. Well done team.

Our wines fit for Queen of England!

Our Pencarrow sauvignon blanc 2010 has been deemed fit for a Queen – the Queen of England in fact.

In a recent blind taste-test, the Royal Household Wine Committee acknowledged the love of sauvignon blanc and bought 840 bottles, including 30 cases of Palliser Estate Wine’s Pencarrow for inclusion in Her Majesty’s 5000-bottle wine cellar. The wines would be served at more than 300 events held each year at Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle.
