20/08/2012 » News, Palliser Estate, Pinot Noir
Having dinner with friends on the weekend and a visit to the deep dark depths of my cellar unearthed a bottle of the 1991 Pinot Noir. Allans first vintage, and I joined the ranks not long after. Lovely to see the transition over the years with the label from then to now.
Everyone at work had the opportunity to have a sample this morning and here are some thoughts:
Allan - My first PN at Palliser. As a young wine it had some robust tannins which are now softened but provide the wine with good backbone and very satisfying texture.
Carla – Colour as you would expect from a 20 year old wine, soft jammy ripe berry fruit flavours, still finishing long and smooth in the mouth. A delightful treasure.

Here is the more eloquent & thorough review by Raymond Chan of our 2011 Estate Chardonnay (which he gave 5 stars) http://goo.gl/bcW7Y:
Brilliant straw-yellow colour with pale golden hues, light on edge. The nose is full and voluminous with ripe stonefruit and citrus aromas, finely concentrated, revealing layers of flinty lees and buttery MLF elements. Medium-full bodied, soft flavours of grapefruit and butterscotch gently fill the mouth, with complexing notes of flint, nutty oak and butter in the background. Fine, lacy acidity and a fine textural thread are counterpoised by barrel-ferment creaminess. This has an elegant concentration and depth that carries through to a very sustained finish with citrus fruit flavours, This gently mouthfilling Chardonnay has complexing layers of flavour and is elegant and lively in expression. Match with seafood, poultry and pork over the next 3-5 years. 85% clone 95 and 15% Mendoza fruit, fully barrel-fermented, half with indigenous yeasts to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 11 months in oak on lees, stirred only once, with 32% undergoing MLF. 18.5-/20 Aug 2012 RRP $30.00
